Ranger Responsibilities
Council’s Rangers are responsible for a wide range of duties across the Glen Innes Severn local government area. These include:
- Impounding and releasing animals from the pound
- Responding to animal-related incidents, including dog attacks and livestock on roads
- Enforcing companion animal microchipping and registration requirements
- Monitoring and enforcing on-street parking regulations
- Trapping nuisance or unrestrained animals
- Enforcing environmental compliance
Note: Council Rangers cannot investigate cases of animal cruelty. These matters should be referred to the RSPCA or Animal Welfare League.
Rangers operate under the following legislation:
- Companion Animals Act 1998
- Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
- Local Government Act 1993
