After Hours Emergency Assistance:

For urgent situations outside of Council's business hours (8.00am – 4.30pm, Monday to Friday), contact the right service:

Call NSW Police on 000 if the situation involves:

  • A dog attack
  • Livestock (such as cattle or horses) wandering on a highway or other classified road

Ranger Responsibilities

Council’s Rangers are responsible for a wide range of duties across the Glen Innes Severn local government area. These include:

  • Impounding and releasing animals from the pound
  • Responding to animal-related incidents, including dog attacks and livestock on roads
  • Enforcing companion animal microchipping and registration requirements
  • Monitoring and enforcing on-street parking regulations
  • Trapping nuisance or unrestrained animals
  • Enforcing environmental compliance

Note: Council Rangers cannot investigate cases of animal cruelty. These matters should be referred to the RSPCA or Animal Welfare League.

Rangers operate under the following legislation:

  • Companion Animals Act 1998
  • Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997
  • Local Government Act 1993
