Which Day Is My Collection?

The day your bins are collected depends on where you live. To find your collection days for 2025, check the calendar below:

Bin Collection Guidelines

To ensure your waste is collected safely and on time, please follow the guidelines below:

Before Collection Day

Place your bin out the night before your scheduled collection day

  • Council is not required to return if your bin is not out in time.
  • If missed, you will need to dispose of the waste at a local landfill facility.

Use a Council-approved bin

  • Only bins supplied by Glen Innes Severn Council are eligible for collection.
  • Bins with green lids — or green lids that have been painted or covered to imitate red — will not be collectedNote: Emmaville and Deepwater may still have green-lidded bins issued for recycling; these are currently being phased out.

Position bins correctly

  • Place bins on level ground, close to the kerb.
  • Leave at least 1.5 metres of space between each bin and other objects (e.g. poles, trees, parked cars).

Keep bins safe and manageable

  • Maximum bin weight: 70kg
  • Do not overfill. Bin lids must close fully.
  • Items should fit loosely and be easy to empty.

What Not to Put in the General Waste Bin

Please do not place the following items in your general waste bin:

  • Recyclables (use the recycling bin instead)
  • Liquids
  • Hot ashes
  • Hazardous materials
  • Building and construction waste
  • Car parts
  • Heavy items (e.g. large rocks, bricks or concrete)

What Should I be Putting in my Recycling Bin?

After Collection

  • Bring your bin back onto your property as soon as possible after collection.
  • Bins must not be left at the kerb beyond collection day.

About Your Bin

  • Your bins always remain the property of Glen Innes Severn Council.
  • Each bin is assigned to set addresses and must not be removed from the original property to which it was supplied, unless by Council staff.

Need Help with Your Bin?

If there’s a problem with your bin or waste collection, we’re here to help. Please read the information below to find what you need.

Missed Bin or Broken Bin?

If your bin wasn’t emptied on collection day, or your bin or lid is broken, let Council know by filling out this form:

New House or Need a New Bin?

If you’ve just moved into a new home and need a bin, or you need a replacement bin, you’ll need to fill out the Garbage Service Application 2024/25(PDF, 172KB).

Completed forms must be returned to Council's Town Hall Administration Office at: 265 Grey Street, Glen Innes so we can process your request. Please note: fees may apply.

How to Safely Get Rid of Syringes

Please don’t put syringes in any bin – not even if the needle has been removed. This is dangerous for staff who work with our recycling and waste.

Council may inspect bins. If syringes are found, your recycling service could be stopped.

How to safely throw away syringes:

  • Put used syringes in a strong plastic container with a screw-on lid (like a laundry detergent bottle).
  • Drop them off at a sharps disposal bin. There is a sharps disposal bin at the Glen Innes Hospital.
