Economic Development Strategy
The purpose of an Economic Development Strategy (EDS) 2026-2030 is to guide sustainable growth that strengthens both the economy and the sense of place. It provides a shared roadmap for creating vibrant, welcoming places where people want to live, work, invest and visit, while celebrating the region’s unique landscapes, geology and cultural stories through Geotourism.
The strategy aligns government, business and community around common priorities, helping to coordinate projects, partnerships and funding in ways that activate streets, public spaces and village centres. It focuses on building local opportunity from local strengths, supporting small businesses, creatives and entrepreneurs, improving connectivity, and enhancing public spaces that encourage connection and participation.
By linking economic growth with community wellbeing, culture, environment and the deep-time story of the Highlands, the strategy aims to create prosperous, resilient and distinctive places that reflect local identity and benefit current and future generations.
