RISE & THRIVE FOR NSW SMALL BUSINESS MONTH 2026
Published on 01 October 2026
Glen Innes Severn Council has officially launched Rise & Thrive - NSW Small Business Month 2026, with Mayor, Cr Margot Davis opening the month-long program at the Glen Innes Highlands Hub this morning.
Addressing attendees at the official launch, Mayor Davis highlighted the vital role local businesses play in the prosperity and wellbeing of the Glen Innes Severn community.
"Small businesses are essential to our local economy," Mayor Davis said.
"They create jobs, provide services, support local suppliers and give our towns and villages their character”.
Mayor Davis said while the determination and hard work of business owners were critical, businesses also needed the right conditions to succeed.
“Council’s role is to create the conditions for local businesses to succeed."
"Through our Economic Development Strategy, Destination Management Plan and soon-to-be-released Investment Prospectus, we are working to strengthen our local economy while advocating and enabling the broader foundations that support business growth, including housing, liveability, infrastructure and services.”
The Rise & Thrive program will run throughout October and is being delivered through the Glen Innes Highlands Hub in partnership with business, education, employment, government, tourism and community organisations. The program includes workshops, business breakfasts, Lunch & Learn sessions, networking opportunities, industry presentations and practical business support activities.
Key events throughout the month include the launch of the Highlands Hub Small Business Toolkit, visitor economy insights sessions, workforce and training events, the UNE Regional Smart Incubator and Highlands Hub Partnership Launch, young entrepreneur presentations, women in business activities, business support workshops and networking opportunities.
Mayor Davis also acknowledged the significant effort involved in developing and delivering the program.
"I would like to sincerely thank Council's Economic Development and Tourism team, our event partners, presenters and everyone who has contributed to bringing this fantastic program together.
"The breadth of opportunities available throughout the month is a credit to the work that has gone into planning the program and reflects Council's commitment to supporting local businesses, entrepreneurs and future business leaders."
Mayor Davis encouraged business owners, community members and aspiring entrepreneurs to take advantage of the many free opportunities available throughout October.
"I encourage everyone to have a look at the program, attend the events that interest them and make the most of the expertise, connections and opportunities being offered through Rise & Thrive."
“Supporting local businesses strengthens our economy, creates opportunities and attracts new residents and investment. This is an important part of achieving our Economic Development Strategy goal of growing Glen Innes Severn to 10,000 people by 2035.”
The full Rise & Thrive program is available on Council's website and through the Glen Innes Highlands Hub. Community members can also follow the Glen Innes Highlands Hub on social media for updates and event information throughout the month.
