COMMUNITY COMMITTEES CONTINUE TO PLAY A KEY ROLE ACROSS THE REGION
Published on 27 March 2026
Glen Innes Severn Council has acknowledged the ongoing work of its Community Committees of Council, following the March Council meeting where several committees were formally endorsed for the coming term.
Councillors noted that Community Committees play an important role in supporting local events, facilities and services, while providing a direct connection between Council and the community.
Mayor Cr Margot Davis thanked committee members for their continued involvement.
“Our Community Committees are made up of people who give their time to support their communities,” Cr Davis said. “Their contribution helps ensure local knowledge and community perspectives continue to inform Council decision‑making.”
Planning will continue for future Australia Day celebrations, with the Australia Day Committee bringing together local volunteers who help shape an event that recognises community achievement and reflects local values.
The Glen Innes Community Access Committee will continue its focus on accessibility and inclusion, providing practical input to help improve participation for people of all abilities.
At the Glen Innes library, community members remain involved through the Library Committee, supporting a much‑loved space that brings people together for learning, connection and activity.
In Glencoe, the Hall Committee continues to care for the community hall, a well‑used local venue for meetings, events and gatherings throughout the year.
The region’s agricultural community is also represented through the Saleyards Advisory Committee, which brings together agents and landholders to support the ongoing operation of the Glen Innes Saleyards.
Updates were also received from other Community Committees across the region, reflecting steady, behind‑the‑scenes work taking place in towns and villages.
Cr Davis said the continued involvement of volunteers is what keeps these committees strong.
“These committees work best when people stay involved and share their local insight. That ongoing contribution makes a real difference,”
Residents interested in getting involved are encouraged to keep an eye out for opportunities to join their local Community Committee.
