UPGRADES TO CCTV SYSTEMS IN GLEN INNES

Glen Innes Severn Council will soon commence significant upgrades to local CCTV infrastructure in Glen Innes to help improve safety and peace of mind in the community. This includes upgrades to the existing system in the town centre and the first-ever installation of CCTV at ANZAC Park.
The project is scheduled to begin between late May and early June and will include the installation of 16 new high-definition cameras across four streetlight poles located between the Bourke Street and Meade Street intersections - four cameras per pole - significantly expanding coverage across the central business district.
In addition, 13 new cameras will be installed around the perimeter of the Town Hall, with the building’s existing CCTV system upgraded to a 32-channel network featuring advanced activity flagging capabilities to assist with efficient footage review.
Council will also implement a remote CCTV system at ANZAC Park, which will be directly connected to the upgraded Town Hall network to allow for seamless monitoring. This will be the first time the park has been included in Council’s CCTV network.
Following a petition from the business community requesting the installation of street surveillance cameras, Council committed to several actions, including pursuing external funding opportunities to expand CCTV coverage alongside current budget allocations, collaborating with property owners to encourage private surveillance initiatives and developing a comprehensive Public Safety and Asset Protection CCTV Strategy.
Mayor Margot Davis said Council remains committed to investing in infrastructure and technologies that enhance the safety, security and wellbeing of the community.
“Council understands how important it is for our community and business owners to feel safe and supported. These CCTV upgrades will provide a greater level of visibility in key public areas and reinforce our efforts to deter crime and protect public infrastructure,” Cr Davis said.
These enhancements are designed to deter anti-social behaviour, support crime prevention initiatives and strengthen the security of Council assets and public spaces.
