2024 Australia Day Award Recipients

Each year the Glen Innes Severn Council Australia Day Committee proudly presents several awards at an Australia Day ceremony to recognise the voluntary achievements of fellow citizens, community groups and community events by acknowledging their outstanding contribution to our community through service or community work, or through individual dedication and contribution to a particular group or the whole community, during any period of time.

Citizen of the Year Recipients: Mary Hollingworth and Leonie Lee (joint award)

Recognises individuals for their outstanding contribution, for their personal endeavours, achievements and service to the community. 

Nominees: Kristen Bailey, Mary Hollingworth, Andrew Irwin, Robert Irwin, Leonie Lee, Warren McAllister, Veronica McNamara, David Newport, Astrid Scheer, Gail Stone and Wayne Williams (Electrical).

Young Citizen of the Year Recipients: Brooke Klingner and Ryan McAllister (joint award)

Recognises young individuals for their outstanding contribution, for their personal endeavours, achievements and service to the community.

Community Event of the Year Recipient: Glen Severn Christmas Lunch

This is presented to the person/group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the past year.

Nominees: Anglican Church Fete, Australian Red Cross Christmas Tree Event, Glen Innes Highlands Lioness Lions Club - Convention, Glen Severn Christmas Lunch.

Volunteer Community Organisation of the Year Recipient: The Glen Innes Food Hub

This is presented to a local community group that has made an outstanding voluntary contribution to the community of Glen Innes Severn LGA.

Emergency Services Volunteer of the Year Recipient: Mike Brewer

This is presented to the person/group who has provided outstanding contribution and commitment. 

Nominees: Mike Brewer, Andrew Irwin, Chris Irwin, Jason Irwin, Robert Irwin.

Environmental Citizen of the Year Recipient: John Winter

This is presented to an individual or group that has demonstrated a commitment to our environment through a project or initiative they have undertaken.

Young Environmental Citizen of the Year (school aged): 

This is presented to a school age individual or group that has demonstrated a commitment to our environment through a project or initiative they have undertaken.

Senior Sportsperson of the Year (Senior Sportsperson and Contribution to Sport) Recipients: Kristen and Shad Bailey

Recognises individuals for their sporting achievements, their actions which inspire, enrich and encourage others and who have made significant contribution. 

Nominees: Kristen and Shad Bailey, Jamie Crawford, Maddison Crawford, Kayden Elliott, Brooke Klingner, Brian Starkey. 

Individual Junior Sportsperson of the Year Recipient: Payten Ward

Recognises young individuals for their sporting achievements, their actions which inspire, enrich and encourage others and who have made significant contribution.

Nominees: Lali Alt, Mary Arandale, Lily-Rose Gallagher, Beau MacRae, Naomi Robinson, Cooper Ward, Payten Ward, Olivia Wilkins. 

 

The Glen Innes Severn Council acknowledges the continued hard work and dedication of the Australia Day Committee, as volunteers, they organised the official Australia Day ceremony, along with free morning tea and free breakfast at the Dundee Hall for the community to enjoy.
