Local Road Closures

Information regarding road closures will be updated on this page and on Glen Innes Severn Council Facebook page.

Temporary Road Closure

Coronation Avenue and Grafton Street Intersection

Motorists are advised of the temporary road closure commencing Tuesday 21 May until Tuesday 28 May 2024 in Grafton Street between Penzance Street to Derby Street to allow for heavy patching repair work.

Access to the Industrial Estate is still available through Penzance Street during this closure.

Access to Martin Street and Strathbogie Road is available through Derby Street during this closure.

Temporary Road Closure

Mt Mitchell Road at Mann River

From 9 January the Mt Mitchell Road will be closed at Mann River for the removal of the old timber bridge and the construction of the replacement concrete bridge.

The $1.4M project is funded by the Fixing Country Bridges Program and will be delivered by Council's Works Department and specialist contractors.  The new bridge will be higher, reducing the number of road closures due to flooding and will have wider lanes and re-aligned road approaches to increase user safety.

The project is expected to take ten months and due to the topographical constraints of the site, a full road closure for the duration of the project is the most appropriate option.

Alternate access to the Mt Mitchell area east of the Mann River is via Glen Legh Road.

Please contact Council’s Infrastructure Services Customer Service on (02) 6730 2371 or email roads@gisc.nsw.gov.au for further information.

Temporary Road Closure

Wentworth Street

The bridge over Rocky Ponds Creek in Wentworth Street Glen Innes between East Avenue and West Avenue will be closed from Wednesday 6 March 2024.

This closure is so that Council can undertake the demolition of the old timber bridge structure and construction of the replacement concrete bridge.

This project and temporary road closure is expected to last for approximately five (5) months.

Roads and Bridges Updates

Bridge Closure - Furracabad Road

Council contracted certified bridge engineers to assess the bridge over the Furracabad Creek on Furracabad Road.

The timber structures were found to be in very poor condition and due to significant deterioration of substructure elements, it was recommended that the bridge be closed to vehicular traffic immediately. Council unfortunately has little choice but to comply with this recommendation due to public safety concerns, and kindly advises that the bridge will be closed with immediate effect.

Council regrets any inconvenience that these closures may cause, and thanks residents and motorists in advance for their co-operation.
