Keep the Cold out of your Water Meter

Published on 30 March 2023

With the colder months looming large on the horizon, please spare a thought for your water meter’s sensitivity to the cooler temperatures. Keeping your water meter covered is highly recommended once winter overnight temperatures start. Covers prevent the water meter from being exposed to the temperatures and other weather elements. Low temperatures can easily cause meters to freeze, and in some cases burst or leak.

The easiest way to insulate your water meter is with a cover that traps the air around it. You must make sure, that any cover you use can be easily removed for maintenance and ensures that the aerial for the newer automated smart water meters signal is not obstructed. Residents can purchase water meter covers from Council for $105.00.
